      <image:title>The Project</image:title>
<image:caption>The Challenge There are 61 million disabled people in the USA today, but despite making up over 25% of the US population, D/deaf and disabled people are chronically under-served onscreen, behind the camera and as consumers of screen storytelling. The lack of representation and visibility in the media is not only reflective of a historical erasure of this ever-growing community, it perpetuates the stigmatization of disabilities in a vicious cycle that can easily be broken. Not only do people with disabilities need to see themselves, but their families and communities need to see disability on their screens. Stories about people with disabilities should reflect the richness and diversity of their experiences in order to challenge attitudes about disability, change the wider narrative and build acceptance.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Project</image:title>
<image:caption>The Approach The premise of this film is to be a collaborative creative effort between the filmmakers and Annabel. It aims to elevate her voice and facilitate her own creative endeavors. You will get to know Annabel in her daily life, what brings her joy, where she struggles. She’ll introduce us to her family and friends, her theater group, and the restaurant where she works. We will put our production resources and expertise in service of Annabel's vision by creating with her a musical number, bringing together her entire family and friends, which will be the climax of the film.</image:caption>

She works at the National Down Syndrome Society as the Education Program Associate and advocates for inclusion and community integration of people with Down syndrome. There is currently legislation before both the House and the Senate of the U.S. Congress that bears her name: the Charlotte Woodward Organ Transplant Discrimination Prevention Act. Charlotte graduated from high school with a standard degree and graduated from Northern Virginia Community College summa cum laude; she then transferred to George Mason University, from which she recently graduated, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Inequality and Social Change. Charlotte’s studies and her work perfectly complement each other. As a budding sociologist, she examines the structural and systemic inequalities in society that affect the lives of people with disabilities, and as an advocate, she uses this knowledge to raise awareness about them and to affect positive change.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Inspiration - A Personal Connection</image:title>
<image:caption>Producer Amity Hoffman was first introduced to the power of theater in the lives of people with developmental disabilities when she was asked to costume design a performance of The Wizard of Oz by the Loveland Players back in 2004. The Loveland Players is a theater troupe born from a partnership between The Loveland Center, a day program, and Venice Theatre, a local community theater in Venice, FL. Amity’s exposure to the troupe and the transformative work being done there, led her to become a volunteer actor for the troupe and eventually inspired her to take on her first full-length feature documentary The Best Show In Town. Through The Best Show In Town viewers witness first hand how theater brings about inclusion and visibility for an otherwise invisible population.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Inspiration</image:title>
<image:caption>While working on The Best Show In Town, Amity connected with other special needs theater troupes from other states (Pink Umbrella, Phamaly Theater Company, Theater Exceptional) including one in Amity’s hometown of Wichita, KS, Laughing Feet Performers. The Executive Director of Laughing Feet turned out to be Jenny Mitchell, an old theater colleague and college friend of Amity’s. Realizing their shared passion for normalizing disabilities through theater, Jenny and Amity discussed the possibility of collaborating on a future film project. To gauge interest Amity returned to Wichita where Jenny facilitated a meet and greet event with the Laughing Feet actors and families along with separate meetings with the Laughing Feet board members and select actors with their parents. Through these meetings it was determined that there was genuine interest in collaboration on the part of both the Laughing Feet board and participating families.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Inspiration</image:title>
<image:caption>The global pandemic forced those plans to the back burner. Meanwhile, while touring film festivals with The Best Show In Town, Amity met Lauren and Ida. The three hit it off with their shared passion for telling humanistic stories and raising the voices of underrepresented communities. A collaboration was born so that, when the theater reopened, the three were ready to take this new film project on together. Traveling to Wichita and spending time with Annabel gave the film its direction.</image:caption>
